What Are the Implications?
The electric utility industry is going “digital.”
The smart grid focused on deploying smart meters, distributed automation and demand response systems, plus fiber optic communications to improve generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure. Empowering the customer requires real-time data collection and storage of potentially millions of devices, data analytics, plus business and operational support systems.
A typical home energy management installation includes 4 to 6 intelligent devices, reliable Internet connectivity, plus in-premise networking, customer training and continued product and service
support. In addition, we provide project management, logistical and professional in-premise installation and networking services, which requires licensed electrical technicians and IT experience.
There are also the underlying IP networks, enterprise platforms and systems for customer service, business and operational support that have to be developed and maintained. We leverage existing vendors and rural cooperative systems to launch our energy management and broadband services, while developing the necessary platforms and systems that scale to support multiple rural cooperatives and thousands of customers.
